Graduated from Western Michigan University, (Business) and started his career working for Butternut Bread. A few months later got a better offer to join Frito Lay, and delivered white bread, cupcakes, cookies, chips and dip for the next seven years. Married Paula, an amazing cook, who helped guide the future for cooking in the Johnson family. Paula was a legal secretary by training and actually typed Chris’s first couple books.

Newly married, with twins on the way, Chris realized driving a truck wasn’t the career he wanted and perused going back to school. After a two-hour conversation with a Michigan State University professor Dr. Kwok Ho, Dr. Ho told Chris “You are a PREVENTION guy”. Interned at Butterworth Metropolitan Wellness Center, Grand Rapids. His role involved speaking to companies’ about high blood pressure and cholesterol. He also performed stress testing.

Worked with Barry Saltman and opened WellAware Fitness Center. Chris worked with high risk clients: COPD, Heart Replacement, and Diabetes.

As one of the first employees of the Michigan Athletic Club (MAC), Chris was hired to start the fitness program as the Fitness Director.

Started doing seminars called “FYI” at the MAC. Four people attended his first event. As time went on and more people learned about “FYI” his audiences grew and his message began to spread.

Started speaking on a topic called “Meal Patterning”. Meal Patterning was about pattering your meals, and introducing people to a new way of looking at eating and nutrition.

Co-Authored Fitness FORE Golf with Steve Ruthenberg. (Golf professional) As an avid golfer Chris wanted to create a workout program specific to golf.

Continued to grow membership at the MAC, personal training becomes elite, earning $1,000,000 in revenue. The Michigan Athletic Club is currently one of the largest health clubs in the country.

With guidance from Al Arens and many others, Chris took his Meal Patterning book to the next level, re-wrote it, and created a self-published hard copy. He sold 20,000+ by toting them to his seminars.

Met with branding specialist Dick Bruso and developed a new company, brand, and logo - On Target Living. On Target Living was created around the signature Food Target.

Came out with two new books, On Target Living Nutrition, and On Target Living Cooking and the On Target Living version of the Food Target. All three sold very successfully. (Due to updating, all three were pulled out of circulation in late 2013.
